Where House Structures Started

House Structures is here because most of what’s online about building and design doesn’t hold up once you’re actually working on a house. This site was built to cover the real questions people run into when they’re building, fixing up a room, or trying to figure out why a space isn’t working.

That’s what House Structures is: practical answers to the problems people actually hit, instead of generic advice recycled across a dozen other sites.

This site is built around construction and design decisions that matter, the kind of questions people ask when they’re planning a build, fixing a room, or trying to work out why a layout isn’t working.

What You’ll Find Here

We write for homeowners, students, DIYers, and anyone working through a build or a redesign, a full custom home, an exterior refresh, or a single room that needs rethinking. Our guides cover:

  • Construction: building methods, structural stages, and the trade-offs behind them
  • Exterior design: architectural styles, materials, and details worth the cost
  • Interior design: layout, style, and space planning for homes people actually live in
  • Landscape Design: yards, pools, paving, and the outdoor spaces around a house

Each guide is written by someone with direct experience in that area, or researched thoroughly enough to know where people typically get stuck.

Our Approach

We explain trade-offs, not just steps. When we cover a building method, we tell you what it costs you elsewhere. When we cover a design style, we tell you what actually defines it, not just how it photographs. If something is more complicated than it looks, we say so.

If a guide wouldn’t help someone standing in their own house trying to make a decision, we don’t publish it.

Let’s Build Something

Whether you’re planning a build, redesigning a room, or trying to understand your own house better, we’re glad you’re here. Browse the guides, use what’s useful, and get in touch if there’s something we haven’t covered yet.
